Roger Nyhus has been appointed as the new United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. A prominent Seattle business leader, Nyhus was nominated by President Joe Biden in September 2022 and received unanimous Senate approval for the position last month. His ambassadorial role extends to Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Nyhus succeeds Ambassador Linda Taglialatela, who has served in the role for approximately seven years. The exact date for Nyhus to assume his new responsibilities has not been specified.
Following his Senate confirmation, Nyhus expressed his gratitude and pride on his LinkedIn page. He highlighted his commitment to representing the United States and the American people in the Caribbean, emphasizing his identity as a business leader, gay man, member of the Chinook Indian Nation, and Seattleite. He pledged to be a steadfast advocate for American interests, businesses, and diplomatic relations.
Prior to this appointment, Nyhus founded and later sold Nyhus Communications, a well-known public relations and advocacy firm based in Seattle.
