The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has officially addressed the disappearance of the private Gulfstream jet (N337LR) for the first time. The jet, which took off from Canouan on Friday for a sightseeing flight, vanished from radar only seven minutes into its journey.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, who also serves as the Minister of National Security, stated that the government has been in communication with pertinent authorities in two Latin American countries, the United States, and the regional security system regarding the incident. He indicated that the prevailing theory is that the aircraft’s transponder was intentionally turned off. Gonsalves assured that, based on the information shared by these authorities, there was no evidence of illegal activities associated with the aircraft’s departure from Canouan.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of discretion in handling sensitive security matters, suggesting that the government has a clearer understanding of the situation than what has been publicly disclosed. He indicated that not all information received from security forces is appropriate for public dissemination and that certain details may be withheld until the right time.
