Three Foreign Nationals Charged with Child Trafficking, Denied Bail in Tobago Court 2

Three foreign nationals, identified as Deivy Oscoro Silva (20yrs) from Colombia and Digna Yulay (33yrs) and Alexandra Chalas Pozo (22yrs) from the Dominican Republic, have been charged with human trafficking and violations under the Children’s Act. They appeared in a magistrate’s court and were denied bail, pending their court reappearance on December 22.

The trio, charged with trafficking in children, faced the magistrate in Scarborough. Additionally, Silva and Pozo were charged with transporting a person for the purpose of prostitution. Pozo faces an extra charge of inciting a child to become a prostitute.

These arrests followed an operation by the Counter Trafficking Unit and the Special Investigation Task Force. Acting on information received on November 27 about a suspected child prostitution ring, officers conducted surveillance and swiftly moved to action on the sister isle. This led to the arrest of the three accused during the intelligence-led police operation. In this operation, three Latin American female minors were rescued, and several items of potential evidential value were seized. The case presents a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable minors.
