Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Calls for Improved Safety Measures After Recent InterCaribbean Airlines Incidents 2

Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda has raised concerns regarding the safety of InterCaribbean Airlines following multiple technical issues. The most recent incident involved Flight 713, which experienced a technical problem after takeoff from Douglas-Charles Airport, forcing it to return to Dominica. This event follows a similar occurrence at V.C Bird International Airport, where an engine failure was reported during takeoff approximately four weeks earlier.

Although no injuries have been reported, the repetitive nature of these incidents has prompted PM Browne to question the airline’s maintenance practices and call for enhanced safety measures. He emphasized the importance of rebuilding public trust in the airline, which has been shaken by these events.

InterCaribbean Airlines has responded by confirming that a precautionary engine shutdown was necessary after detecting an anomaly on Flight 713. The aircraft returned safely to Marigot, with emergency services on standby, avoiding further complications. To address passenger inconvenience, the airline is arranging for an alternative aircraft to ensure travelers reach their destinations safely.

These developments come at a critical time for the airline, as it faces increased scrutiny over its operational safety and maintenance protocols.
