Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves praised Sandals Resorts for its significant contribution to St Vincent and the Grenadines during recent challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2021 eruption of La Soufrière volcano. During the official opening of Sandals St Vincent, Gonsalves highlighted the luxury resort’s initiative to train and employ Vincentians across the Caribbean, which provided critical economic relief and symbolized a deep partnership during the nation’s time of need.

Describing the integration of Sandals into the Caribbean as monumental, Gonsalves commended Sandals’ late founder Gordon “Butch” Stewart for his pioneering role in regional tourism and announced the naming of a local road as Gordon “Butch” Stewart Boulevard in his honor.

Sandals Executive Chairman Adam Stewart also reflected on the legacy of his father and the brand’s expansion, emphasizing that the new resort not only promotes the destination but also boosts local economies through increased airlift and tourism. He revealed that major airlines like American Airlines, Air Canada, Virgin, JetBlue, and United Airlines have increased flights, enhancing connectivity and benefiting both nationals and visitors.

This development marks a significant milestone for both Sandals and St Vincent and the Grenadines, promising extensive economic and cultural benefits to the island and its people.
