Dominica has decided to withdraw from hosting matches in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled for June 4-30 in the Caribbean and USA. The decision, announced by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development, comes after realizing that the necessary infrastructure upgrades at venues like the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and Benjamin’s Park won’t be completed in time.
Despite efforts to upgrade facilities, the timelines from contractors indicated that preparations would not meet the required deadline. Dominica, initially among seven Caribbean venues chosen, emphasizes that this move is in everyone’s best interest, acknowledging its strong record in hosting international cricket events.
The government expresses gratitude to Cricket West Indies for their partnership and wishes success for the upcoming tournament. This withdrawal highlights the challenges small nations face in meeting international event standards within tight timeframes, underscoring the importance of realistic planning and timely execution in hosting global sports events.
