ExxonMobil Guyana has made a significant announcement regarding a new oil discovery at the Bluefin site within the Stabroek Block, marking the company’s initial discovery for the year 2024. The discovery was made by the Stena Drillmax drillship, which encountered approximately 60 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone. Notably, the Bluefin well is strategically positioned about 8.5 kilometers southeast of the previously identified Sailfin-1 well, situated in the southeastern portion of the Stabroek block.
Alistair Routledge, the President of ExxonMobil Guyana, emphasized the importance of this discovery. He stated, “Our exploration program continues to improve our understanding of the block’s potential to drive viable oil-and-gas development. This latest find reinforces that we have the people, skills, and technology to safely and responsibly deliver value to Guyana from the country’s resources.” This discovery adds to the more than 30 significant finds made on the Stabroek block since 2015, underscoring the rich potential of Guyana’s offshore resources and ExxonMobil’s commitment to exploring and developing these assets.
