In a surprising turn of events at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, the Barbados senior women’s football team faced a 4-2 defeat against St Vincent and the Grenadines in their final group game of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup qualifiers.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, considered underdogs in the tournament, achieved their first victory and scored their first goals of the competition. The Lady Tridents of Barbados, meanwhile, experienced their second consecutive loss and their second 4-2 away defeat in the group stage.

The scoring was initiated by Ashante Browne of St Vincent and the Grenadines in the 12th minute. The team further bolstered their lead with goals from Samayaa Connell, Jessicia Miller, and Asanteni Charles, all within a seven-minute span in the latter half of the match.

Barbados responded with a long-range goal by Shanice Stevenson in the 74th minute. Subsequently, Tiana Bynoe of Barbados prompted an own goal from Altica Benn, the goalkeeper for St Vincent and the Grenadines, during stoppage time. Despite these efforts, the Bajan team could not overturn the deficit, resulting in their defeat.
